The AeroPress is one of the specialty-coffee industry’s most iconic and beloved coffee brewers, and this year, it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary. To honor this huge milestone, the American leg of the AeroPress Championship—the world’s largest coffee competition—will take place in five cities across the United States.

In the hopes of claiming the title of the American AeroPress Champion, the best brewers from around the country will battle across four qualifiers held in Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, and New York City, culminating at a national final hosted in San Francisco.

A Look at the Competition: How It Works

The AeroPress Championship is a multi-round, elimination tournament of competitive coffee making. A handful of competitors per round have just five minutes to brew a single cup of AeroPress coffee and present it to the judges. The judges will taste each coffee, choose their favorite, and, on the count of three, point to their chosen coffee. The winner will progress to the next round, while the others will be eliminated.

The final winner will take an expenses-paid trip to Seoul, South Korea, to represent the U.S. at the World AeroPress Championship final.

Danny Toro, winner of the 2024 American AeroPress Championship, spoke on their competition experience with Barista Magazine. “Competing in this event was an incredible experience, and I’m honored to have shared it with such a skilled group of individuals,“ Danny shared last year. “Witnessing such meticulously brewed recipes, along with the passion and dedication behind them, was truly inspiring.”

A Chance to Sample Coffee from the Country’s Top Roasters

Apart from the competition, the event will also be a great chance to try coffee from some of the best roasters in the U.S. Attendees will get to sip on unlimited coffee from SEY, Equator, Verve, Stumptown, Caffe Vita, Black Fox, and more—all brewed on AeroPress.

Who’s Invited

The team at World Aeropress Championship (WAC) shares that, if you simply love coffee, this event is for you. “The WAC welcomes all coffee lovers to join in on some casual merrymaking, food, drinks, and music, to cheer on the best brewers in the country as they plunge their way towards glory,” they share.
