The annual coffee movement CafeSmart, under the umbrella of StreetSmart, will take place from 1 to 7 August, uniting roasters, cafés, and coffee lovers to help fight homelessness and support those at risk in their local area.

Coffee roasters such as Schibello Coffee Group get involved by connecting their café network to the initiative and in many cases by fundraising with their bean sales.

“At Schibello Coffee Group we are big fans of the CafeSmart initiative. Even though it’s a national campaign, we know that it supports people in our own backyard and that is really important to us as an Australian-owned, family-run business,” says Sal Schinella, Group General Manager of Schibello Coffee Group.

Sal is passionate about getting the café network on board, as well as activating the event at Schibello Coffee Group’s flagship cafés in New South Wales and Queensland.

“The teams have a lot of fun dressing in yellow all week, decorating the venue and promoting the initiative with our customers. Last year, apart from donating $1 per coffee sold on the main day, we also helped raise funds by donating $4 for every kilogram of coffee sold online, and our customers were very supportive,” he says.

CafeSmart café partners activate the event at their venues and help raise funds and awareness in the community. Every participant receives printed collateral including posters and stickers to help decorate the venues in yellow. Cafés promote the event and encourage coffee lovers to donate online all week, as well as raise funds by donating $1 per coffee sold on the main day, Friday 4 August.

CafeSmart encourages everyone to join the coffee movement and show audiences the importance of helping the local community.
