6 Major Changes You’ll See at Starbucks This Year

Starbucks has made significant changes in recent years, including the introduction of new ice and upgraded drink toppings, expanded delivery channels, and commitment to improving food selection. In 2024, the brand is expected to see six major changes, including new menu items, redesigned stores, exciting new merchandise, and green initiatives.

Starbucks has introduced new designs for its tall, grande, venti, and trenta single-use cold drink cups, developed with the Tryer Center in Seattle. These designs use 10 to 20% less plastic, saving over 13.5 million pounds of plastic from landfills each year. Additionally, these cups are set to reduce emissions and conserve water, and are cheaper to make.

Starbucks’ commitment to sustainability is evident in its goal to cut its carbon, water, and waste footprint by 50% by 2030. The company plans to make all of its consumer packaging reusable, recyclable, and compostable by then. With six months left in the year, Starbucks is set to continue its commitment to sustainability.

Starbucks is reimagining its stores to make them more accessible for employees and customers. The company has introduced new guidelines, such as power-operated doors, longer vertical “push” buttons, lower counters, updated point-of-sale setups with adjustable angle stands, and voice assist. Washington, D.C., is the first city to receive one of these newly designed spaces, and the company plans to open 640 more throughout the next year.

Starbucks recently introduced new summer menu items, including the Summer Berry Starbucks Refreshers Beverage, Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage, Summer Skies Drink, White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew, and New Iced Coffee Blend. Beyond drinks, Starbucks also introduced summer-themed sweet snacks like an Orange Cream Cake Pop made with buttercream and white chocolate, and a tasty Pineapple Cream Cake prepared with pineapple cream, pineapple spread, whole fruit pieces, and a sweet drizzle on top.

The company is working on correcting supply-chain issues to ensure that these menu items sell out quickly. The Sunset Gradient cup, a Starbucks x Stanley Quencher collab cup, sports a warm orange-yellow hue and can hold up to 40 ounces of liquid. Other standout merch available include the Pastel Blue Vacuum Seal Cold Cup, which keeps your drink chilled even during the hottest summer temperatures, and the Light Green Bling Cold Cup, perfect for those who like a bit of glitz and glam.

In addition to drinks, Starbucks has introduced in-app deals and offers, including personalized promotions for individual members every Monday throughout the month. If you don’t have the Starbucks app downloaded to your phone, you may want to change that.

Starbucks is also working on making its stores more environmentally friendly. The company currently has 6,091 Certified Greener Stores, a figure that has nearly doubled since last year. Its goal is to have 10,000 certified green stores by 2025, potentially making its other company goal easier to achieve. These Greener Stores are currently in 44 different markets, including the newly added India, New Zealand, Italy, France, Spain, and Singapore markets.

Starbucks’ chief sustainability officer, Michael Kobori, shared on the company’s website that the chain’s “big vision for the future” is to make every Starbucks store more sustainable. He expressed excitement about the continued growth of Greener Stores globally, driven by the passion of its partners.
