Nestlé has committed to ongoing purchases of coffee beans from Thai farmers, reinforcing their capabilities and supporting environmental restoration initiatives. Recently, Nestlé signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to procure Robusta coffee beans directly from Thai farmers for the 2026/2027 production season. This agreement is accompanied by knowledge sharing on regenerative agriculture practices, which aims to enhance both the quality and quantity of coffee production. The initiative is designed to augment farmers’ incomes, improve their overall quality of life, bolster resilience to climate change, and foster biodiversity restoration within coffee plantations. The overarching goal is to establish a robust foundation for the sustainable growth of Thailand’s coffee industry.

Ms. Salinla Seehaphan, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director at Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., emphasized that sustainability in the coffee supply chain starts with empowering coffee farmers at the upstream level. The partnership with Southern coffee growers, which has lasted for decades, extends beyond mere sourcing. It fosters long-term collaboration aimed at enhancing farmers’ capacities, improving coffee quality, and enabling adaptation to climate challenges while supporting ecosystem and biodiversity restoration through regenerative agriculture. This collaboration aspires to create shared value for coffee farmers, local communities, and the Thai coffee industry as a whole.

Additionally, Mr. Thianchai Chookittiwiboon, Governor of Chumphon Province, highlighted the province’s strategic investment in Robusta coffee as a significant economic crop. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration with Nestlé, which amalgamates essential knowledge, advanced technologies, and market access with agricultural practices. This integration aids coffee farmers in enhancing the quality and efficiency of their produce to meet market demands, leading to more stable incomes and improved livelihoods. Nestlé plays a crucial role in unlocking the potential of Chumphon coffee and enhancing its profile in the market.

Moreover, Nestlé organized a NESCAFÉ Farmer Day event aimed at sharing advanced cultivation techniques and regenerative agricultural practices with over 300 farmers from various provinces across Southern Thailand. This event not only facilitated knowledge exchange but also strengthened the farmer network, marking a significant advancement in laying a strong foundation for the future growth of Thailand’s coffee industry. By intertwining economic value creation, farmer capacity development, and environmental stewardship, Nestlé seeks to secure a resilient and sustainable future for the Thai coffee supply chain.
