As everyday expenses rise, TikTok has become a popular platform for DIY content, particularly in the realm of home coffee-making, marked by the viral trend #COFFEETOK. A 2026 Mintel study indicates that one-third of consumers are brewing more coffee at home due to increased prices, with 49% of Gen Z learning about coffee-related topics through TikTok. Jonathan Jackson, an Associate Lecturer at Florida State University, emphasizes that during economic shifts, influencers can effectively guide consumers by demonstrating adaptability. Their persuasiveness stems from mechanisms like social proof, credibility, and relatability, as followers find these creators more approachable compared to traditional celebrities.

The act of making coffee at home, initially perceived as mundane, has transformed into a desirable lifestyle trend through aesthetic social media tutorials. These tutorials not only provide valuable information on coffee preparation but also evoke an aspirational lifestyle through appealing visual presentations. Consumers are inspired to imitate these trends, elevating home coffee-making beyond mere economic necessity to a personal expression.

This shift presents an opportunity for beverage and home goods brands to engage with the trend. Jackson suggests that brands might benefit from collaborating with smaller creators, whose endorsements feel more genuine and integrated into their routines. By partnering with various smaller influencers, brands can achieve broader social proof without making their marketing strategies appear repetitive, allowing for organic visibility across diverse communities and contexts.
