Businesses and coffee artisans in Da Nang are revitalizing the region’s traditional specialties with innovative coffee beverages, providing unique flavors while enhancing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) initiative. This effort strengthens connections between agriculture, culture, tourism, and commerce, aligning with the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, which emphasizes breakthroughs in science and technology and the integration of cultural values into economic development.

The Vietnam Coffee Challenge 2026, held from July 24–26, was organized by the Hai Chau Ward People’s Committee under the theme “Coffee Fest” at APEC Park, attracting participants from various sectors. This event aimed to promote Vietnamese coffee culture and connect the coffee industry with local specialties, thereby building a value chain that includes raw materials, processing, services, and tourism.

Highlighting regional flavors, unique coffee creations were presented, such as Nam O Fish Sauce Coffee, Ngoc Linh Ginseng Coffee, Tra My Cinnamon Coffee, and Avocado Coffee. Each beverage reflects the cultural heritage of the central region, with Chairman Nguyen Van Duy emphasizing that these combinations create novel consumer experiences while showcasing the area’s cultural identity.

Hai Chau Ward, with more than 92% of its economy driven by the commercial and service sectors, serves as a strategic platform to promote its local specialties through these innovative coffee products. Duy noted that this initiative embodies an innovation-led development model, encouraging businesses to utilize local resources for higher-value products, supported by partnerships with entities like Big Coffee Event Co., Ltd., and Trinh Coffee.

One standout drink, Nam O Fish Sauce Coffee, fuses Vietnamese Robusta coffee with powdered Nam O fish sauce, offering a unique culinary experience that represents the heritage of the Nam O traditional craft village. Avocado Coffee from Trinh Coffee similarly combines specialty Robusta with fresh avocado, exemplifying the expansion of coffee menus to include various regional ingredients.

Responses from visitors have been overwhelmingly positive; for instance, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Van, a tourist from Hanoi, appreciated the well-balanced flavors of fish sauce coffee and the cultural insights it provided. In addition to tastings, Coffee Fest 2026 featured various demonstrations of coffee preparation techniques, exhibitions of local products, and competitions for baristas and coffee enthusiasts across the nation.

Ultimately, by integrating regional specialties into coffee offerings, Da Nang is unlocking new avenues to enhance the value of local products, advance cultural heritage, and promote experiential tourism, all while reinforcing its strategy of merging innovation with cultural preservation to create distinctive, higher-value products.
