Cross River has approved a N700 million subsidy for Arabica and Rubusta coffee seedlings to be distributed to small holder farmers in the state. The approval was given during a state executive council meeting, which aimed to boost coffee production in the state. The state had previously decided to subsidise coffee seedlings from N1,000 to N300 per seedling. The governor called on the state’s Ministry of Education to shut down illegal and unaccredited schools to uphold standards and sanitize the education system in line with quality assurance guidelines.

In terms of tourism, the governor affirmed his administration’s determination to rebuild all tourism sites in line with global standards for optimal utilization. A technical committee, headed by tourism expert Fidelis Ugbo, was set up to revive the NorthFest Cultural Festival and bring it up to standard in the state’s tourism calendar. The 2025 Christmas Festival, with the theme “Traces of Time,” will be the last to be funded by the state, as current revitalization efforts will attract huge sponsorship deals that will bridge the funding gap, reducing the burden on the state.

The council also approved N18 billion as investment in Sustainable Tourism Transformation Initiatives, guaranteeing full scale infrastructural upgrade of facilities at Obudu Mountain Resort, Kwa Falls, Marina Resort, and Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort. Other initiatives include rehabilitation of Amber Tinapa Hotel, Studio Tinapa, construction of Pier Harbour, Experience Calabar Tours, and creation of a Heritage Market for Arts and Crafts.
