Specialty Roaster Joe Bean Transitions To Fully Recyclable Coffee Bags With Grant From Nonprofit Nextcorps – CoffeeTalk
Joe Bean Roasters, a Rochester-based specialty coffee roaster, is transitioning to fully recyclable bags for its coffee and is collecting used bags for recycling. The company, a Certified B Corp, has implemented the initiative to reduce waste and foster a circular economy within the coffee industry. Customers are encouraged to drop off empty coffee bags, which will be sent to NexTrex for transformation into durable products like park benches and playground equipment. Used bags can also be dropped off in grocery store soft plastic collection bins. The company is excited to offer fully recyclable bags as part of a system that keeps materials out of landfills and in circulation. Sustainability in coffee must go beyond how it is sourced, but also includes how it is packaged, shipped, and ultimately discarded. Part of the funding for the transition to recyclable packaging was provided by a grant from Nextcorps, the nonprofit helping manufacturers innovate and grow.
