Oat Milk, Coffee, & Protein Shakes Among 53 Drinks Recalled Over Microbial Contamination

94

Lyons Magnus, a manufacturer of “nutritional and beverage products,” has recalled 53 different beverages due to the possibility of microbial contamination, including cronobacter sakazakii contamination.

The beverages are packaged under numerous labels, including Oatly, Intelligentsia, and Stumptown. According to the company’s “preliminary root cause analysis,” the recalled products failed to meet “commercial sterility specifications.”

Since there are so many brands and products involved, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website’s recall page is the best place to look for specific products. The full list of items includes items packaged under the following brands: Lyons Ready Care, Lyons Barista Style, Pirq, Glucerna, Aloha, Intelligentsia, Kate Farms, Oatly, Premier Protein, MRE, Stumptown, and Imperial. These were distributed nationally, though some were restricted to a select few locations. The notice emphasizes that Glucerna products were only available at Costco, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Sam’s Club locations.

However, vulnerable and immunocompromised populations may be more susceptible to infection, according to the notice. This type of contamination may be familiar to many, as it recently made headlines due to widespread contamination in recalled infant formulas.
