Take Care, a Crossroads coffee shop, has opened in Kansas City’s Crossroads district. The shop’s operating ethos is “subtle hospitality,” with coffee beans sold by the pound, reducing the size of bags and ensuring a more accessible experience for customers. The establishment is no-tipping and has received positive feedback from customers. Christopher Oppenhuis, co-owner of Take Care, has been working in coffee for about 20 years, including five years as the director of coffee at Thou Mayest. In 2019, he left to launch Crossroads wholesaler Marcell Coffee, which roasted 70,000 pounds of custom coffees for local businesses. The in-house bakery serves a simple menu, including biscuits, cheddar apple scones, and masa chocolate chunk cookies.
