Gaziantep’s renowned menengiç coffee, infused with pistachio or terebinth, has become Turkey’s 29th product to receive geographical indication from the European Union. The coffee, crafted from unroasted wild pistachio fruit, is a unique culinary treasure among Gaziantep’s culinary treasures and joins the ranks of baklava as EU-registered items. The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) and the chamber and exchange community are working on 66 geographical indications and six traditional product names. The historic Tahmis Coffee House, one of the oldest Ottoman coffeehouses, is proud of the achievement and highlights the beverage’s natural and caffeine-free qualities. Tourists visiting Gaziantep increasingly seek menengiç coffee for its distinctive flavor. The province has the highest number of geographically marked products in Türkiye, boasting 106 such registrations, including pomegranate molasses, lahmacun, and pistachio paste.
