Boon Boona Celebrates Five Years of African Coffee, Hospitality
On Saturday, January 13, Boon Boona Coffee celebrated its five-year anniversary in downtown Renton. The event included an after-hours party featuring music from local DJ Lace Cadence, special gift packages, wine, beer from local breweries, and community members. Owner Efrem Fesaha expressed gratitude to the community for their support and the cafe’s role as an anchor for relaxation and enjoyment.
Boon Boona’s welcoming atmosphere and East African coffee come from Efrem’s Eritrean family, who grew up in Eritrea, a northeast African country on the Red Sea coast. The cafe aims to embody hospitality within its space, focusing on sourcing and distributing Ethiopian green coffee beans. Since opening in 2019, Boon Boona has expanded to several locations in Seattle’s Capitol Hill, the University of Washington Book Store, and the campuses of Microsoft and Amazon in Redmond.
Fesaha is fortunate to have established a business based on his culture, coffee, and hospitality, which he believes is essential to the success of the cafe. The cafe has become a space where community members can relax and enjoy themselves, whether it’s meetings, poetry nights, or book reading events.
