Dominican Coffee Confederation Urges Government To Implement Policies Focusing On Long-Term Sustainability – CoffeeTalk

The Dominican Coffee Confederation (Concafed) is advocating for the government to implement long-term strategies for the sustainable coffee industry. The organization suggests facilitating access to credit for small and medium-sized producers with fair interest rates and reasonable grace periods, as well as creating stabilization funds to help growers manage price fluctuations without threatening their crops’ viability. Concafed also proposes promoting coffee cooperatives for improved market negotiations and a program for renewing and rehabilitating coffee plantations through reforestation efforts with disease-resistant, climate-adapted varieties. The organization also emphasizes the importance of agroecological practices, soil fertility improvement methods, and systems that reduce vulnerability to droughts and floods. Concafed also calls for investments in post-harvest processing infrastructure, promoting coffee byproducts, and enhancing the country’s brand identity in specialized markets. These long-term strategies will not only benefit producers but also strengthen the rural economy and position Dominican coffee globally.
