On some mornings, you leap out of bed as soon as the alarm clock goes off. On other days, however, you may find yourself reaching for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning.

According to PBS, the demand for coffee in the United States exploded in the late 18th century, and the inventiveness of coffee beverages evolved over time. According to The New York Times, cold brew coffee entered the mainstream zeitgeist around 2007 and has remained popular since. According to Java Presse, the fact that it is less acidic and less bitter than regular drip coffee or French press coffee is likely a major factor in its popularity.

While many pre-bottled brands of cold brew are available on the market, you may choose to brew your own at home. There is some disagreement regarding how long you should steep your cold brew, but you shouldn’t go overboard.
