Specialty Coffee Association Partners With The Brazil Specialty Coffee Association To Adopt New Evaluation Standard For Brazilian Specialty Coffee – CoffeeTalk
Brazil Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA) and the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) have announced a strategic partnership to adopt the Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) as the official protocol for evaluating Brazilian specialty coffees. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) cements Brazil’s position as a global leader in specialty coffee innovation and sets a new national standard for quality assessment. Brazil is the world’s largest coffee producer and the second-largest coffee-consuming country, with a diverse range of microclimates and coffee profiles found across its many growing regions. This agreement follows the similar MOU with National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, making Brazil the second country to integrate the CVA into its national evaluation framework.
The agreement also emphasizes education and professional development. BSCA will lead the expansion of SCA Education in Brazil, collaborating closely with SCA to deliver internationally recognized training and certification programs. The goal is to make high-quality education more accessible to coffee professionals across the country, helping build the skills and capacity needed to thrive in a dynamic global market.
SCA will provide technical support to ensure a successful rollout of the CVA nationwide, including training BSCA’s cuppers and technical teams, assisting in data collection and analysis, and supporting BSCA-led events with content and international promotion. The CVA assesses not just flavor, but also physical, affective, descriptive, and extrinsic attributes, offering a shared language to help producers and buyers connect around the full value of coffee.
Brazil’s endorsement of the Coffee Value Assessment is a powerful signal to the global coffee community, laying the foundation for a more transparent, inclusive, and informed coffee industry.
