Nestlé is focusing on sustainable agriculture and enhancing Vietnam’s coffee industry through targeted investments and regenerative farming practices. The NESCAFÉ Plan, which has been active across Vietnam’s Central Highlands for over 13 years, has rejuvenated over 74,000 hectares of coffee farms by providing disease-resistant plantlets and promoting regenerative farming practices. Nestlé plans to introduce traceability at the farm level, allowing them to identify and source coffee directly from specific farms to their factories.

The company emphasizes regenerative agriculture in coffee production to reduce emissions and promote sustainable coffee production. By committing to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, regenerative agriculture can reverse emissions by capturing carbon in the soil. This approach enhances farmers’ livelihoods while positively impacting the planet, creating a sustainable agricultural model for the future.

In Vietnam, Nestlé currently purchases around 20% of Vietnam’s coffee production, partly because Vietnamese farmers are among the world’s most productive. By investing in Vietnam’s coffee sector, Nestlé supports the country’s export goals and ensures its supply chain remains strong with high-quality coffee.

Nestlé presented key initiatives at the Green Economy Forum and Exhibition (GEFE) 2024, which was bigger than ever, with a record number of companies and countries participating. Switzerland, Nestlé’s home country, is heavily represented, reinforcing the forum’s growing importance as a platform for collaboration. European companies in Vietnam are setting a high standard, committing to net-zero goals, and leading as models for other businesses to follow.

This year, Nestlé decided to spotlight regenerative agriculture, as agriculture often receives less attention compared to high-tech sectors like renewable energy. Regenerative agriculture offers a powerful solution by bringing back to basics to cut and even reverse emissions.
