Nestlé Announces $75m Investment Into Flagship Vietnamese Coffee Plant – CoffeeTalk
Nestlé has announced an additional $75 million investment to expand its Nestlé Tri An plant in the southern Vietnam province of Dong Nai, bringing its total investment in the facility over 2024-2025 to $175 million. The investment is in commemoration of the company’s 30 years of operations in Vietnam and aims to enhance the plant’s technology and production capabilities. It will bring Nestlé’s total investment in Vietnam to approximately $904 million.
Tri An is one of Nestlé’s most advanced coffee processing plants worldwide, supplying coffee products to more than 29 countries. It is the only Nestlé facility to produce its complete coffee portfolio including Nescafé, Nescafé Dolce Gusto, Nespresso, Blue Bottle, and Starbucks. The plant is also the largest producer of decaffeinated products for Nestlé globally.
Binu Jacob, managing director of Nestlé Vietnam, reaffirmed Nestlé’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s sustainable and long-term growth. The company remains dedicated to investing in human capital, technological innovation, and sustainable development. They will continue to work together with the country to provide quality nutritional products and create shared value with initiatives that positively impact communities and enhance the lives of all Vietnamese.
Nestlé began operations in Vietnam in 1995 and currently employs around 2,300 people and operates four factories in Vietnam, focusing on the production of coffee, cocoa malt beverages, cooking aids, and water. Over the last three decades, the company has contributed significantly to the country’s socio-economic and environmental development.
Nestlé’s “Creating Shared Value” (CSV) approach has led to several initiatives to promote better nutrition and healthier lifestyles. Notable initiatives include the “MILO Active Vietnam” program, which has helped over 20.7 million children get more active, and the NESCAFÉ Plan, which supports over 21,000 coffee farming households to adopt sustainable farming, including regenerative agricultural practices.
Nestlé Vietnam’s “Nestlé Accompanies Women” initiative empowers rural women by helping them enhance their knowledge of nutrition and healthcare, embrace digital transformation, and build sustainable livelihoods. The Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee honored Nestlé with a Certificate of Merit for its long-standing partnership and meaningful contributions to the local community.
Nestlé Vietnam is also a local pioneer in emission reductions and environmental resource conservation, with initiatives such as regular public awareness campaigns on waste management, reduced virgin plastic packaging, using more recycled packaging material, and FSC-certified paper straws for Ready-to-Drink (RTD) products. All its factories have achieved “Zero Waste to Landfill” status by adopting circular economy principles in production.
