Nescafé Smashes Past Its Sustainable Coffee Sourcing Goal – CoffeeTalk

Nestlé has significantly surpassed its goal to source 20% of its coffee from farmers using regenerative agriculture practices in 2024. This achievement was announced in the Nescafé Plan 2030 Progress Report, which details the company’s progress on its strategy to improve the sustainability of coffee farming. The plan, launched in 2022, aims to invest over $1 billion in the plan by 2030.

Nescafé’s 2030 plan focuses on helping farmers transition to regenerative agriculture practices, which address the environmental impact of farming. These practices include techniques to improve ecosystems, build soil health and fertility, reduce emissions, enhance watershed management, and increase biodiversity. This leads to increased yields and more climate-resilient soils, as well as improved farmers’ livelihoods.

The adoption of regenerative agricultural practices also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with participants achieving a reduction ranging from 20% to 40% of GHG emissions per kilogram of green coffee in 2024. With the initial target met, Nescafé is now pushing towards its next goal of reaching 50% of coffee from farms with regenerative agricultural practices by 2030.

Axel Touzet, Head of Nestlé’s Coffee Brands Strategic Business Unit, said that regenerative agriculture is at the heart of the Nescafé Plan and its efforts to build resilience in the coffee supply chain. The third Progress Report shows that farmers are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of these practices, encouraging Nestlé to continue working with partners, suppliers, and farmers in the regions where they source their coffee.
