Lavazza officially launches Mosaic range at Starward Whisky

On 5 September, Lavazza officially launched its new Mosaic range of blends at a party at Starward Whisky in Port Melbourne.

Developed to appeal to the Australian palate, the new coffee collection was developed with a hand-picked group of Australian artists and artisans. Carlie Dyer, Master Blender at Starward Whisky, Pana Barbounis, Chocolatier and Founder of Pana Organic, and Daimon Downey, contemporary artist and restaurateur, worked alongside the team at Lavazza to craft the collection.

“We had already conducted a lot of our own research, including interviews with premium café customers, mapping the current Australian market, and conducting in-depth sensory tastings with the experts here at Lavazza. Partnering with a group of local artists and artisans was the final piece of the puzzle,” says Nick Ferrara, Lavazza National Training Manager.

At the launch event, the Mosaic range was on display in a range of coffee and whisky infused cocktails. Following speeches from Carlie and Lavazza Australia Managing Director Mimmo Orlando, a panel discussion explored the international relevance of the Australian coffee industry, how Mosaic was developed to appeal to the Australian palate, the creation of the artwork by Daimon, and how the coffees have gone down so far. Joining Moderator Ross Quail on the panel was Kathryn Lewis, Editor of BeanScene, Artist Daimon Downey, Pillar of Salt Owner Alex Torelli, and Nick Ferrara of Lavazza.

The Mosaic collection includes Tidal, Ochre, Retreat, and a seasonal single origin. According to the team, Tidal is the blend that sits at the fruitier end of the scale. Ochre is described as the ultimate crowd-pleaser, straddling the line between chocolatey and fruity, while Retreat offers a full-bodied option for those who prefer a darker roast.
