Illycafe announces the finalists for the 2022 Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award

The winners of the “Best of the Best” and “Coffee Lovers’ Choice” awards will be announced in Rome in November, with the world’s finest coffee growers in attendance at the award ceremony.

19 September 2022, PRNewswire — TRIESTE, Italy — illycaffè announces the 9 Arabica coffee-growing nations and finalists for the 7th Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award, which is dedicated to the son of the company’s founder and a pioneer of virtuous collaboration with growers to produce high-quality, sustainable coffee. One of the finalists will be awarded “Best of the Best,” which will be announced on November 17 in Rome at a ceremony attended by coffee growers.

Throughout this year, illycaffè’s quality control labs analyzed samples from the 2021/2022 harvest and selected the best lots, which qualified for the final round of the seventh edition of the award. The finalists hail from Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Nicaragua, Rwanda, and Guatemala.

“Once again, the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award has brought together the best producers of high-quality, sustainable Arabica coffee, with whom we share a passion for excellence pursued through responsible choices based on economic, social, and environmental sustainability along the entire value chain,” stated Andrea Illy, chairman of illycaffè.

On the morning of November 17, an independent, multidisciplinary panel of international experts (chefs, journalists, coffee tasters, and coffee professionals) will evaluate the nine finalists and select the winner of the ‘Best of the Best’ Award.

In addition, consumers will be invited to sample coffee from the nine finalists and express their preferences during a series of tastings held in flagship illy stores around the world. “Coffee Lovers’ Choice” will be awarded to the coffee with the most votes from consumers.
