Brazil Coffee Exports Stuck In Outdated Ports, Says Cecafe – CoffeeTalk

Brazilian coffee exporters are losing money due to persistent shipping delays at their seaports, according to the Council of Coffee Exporters. The group estimates that nearly 2.2 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee failed to ship as scheduled this year, representing around $580 million in delayed export revenue. Coffee growers are also hit with higher warehouse storage costs, which they are not passing on to buyers. Cecafe has been reporting on the amount of coffee stuck in Brazil’s export ports since June, when the total was 1.2 million bags. The problem is due to outdated infrastructure in Brazil’s largest ports, including Santos and Rio de Janeiro. Brazil exported 36.4 million bags of coffee this year through September, a historic high and a 39% increase from the same period last year.
