BioPak donates 50,000 meals to OzHarvest campaign

Compostable packaging company BioPak is donating 50,000 meals to OzHarvest’s national food relief campaign, Unite to Feed Australia, to help the charity reach its goal of providing an additional five million meals to people in need.

As part of the long-standing partnership – which has already seen more than 337,000 meals donated – BioPak will also release a limited-edition OzHarvest Christmas cup to help raise funds for the campaign. Donations can be made through a QR code on the cup. The campaign also coincides with OzHarvest’s 20-year milestone.

BioPak CEO Gary Smith said the company was proud to support OzHarvest, with community spirit and giving back to those in need at the core and ethos of the company.

“At BioPak, we share OzHarvest’s vision of a world without waste, and for almost two decades we have been committed to driving change through education and action around food rescue and composting,” he says.

“As OzHarvest marks 20 years of impact, we acknowledge that we are not just tackling food waste – but more so nourishing our communities to ensure no one goes hungry. I commend Ronni and the entire OzHarvest community for reaching such a significant milestone that shows how business, connection and collaboration can be a force for good.”

OzHarvest’s Head of Impact, Hally Lara, added that OzHarvest was proud of the longstanding partnership with BioPak and its ongoing support.

“We are currently facing a hidden crisis here in Australia, with more people than ever experiencing food insecurity due to cost-of-living pressures, many needing help for the first time in their lives. We are so grateful to our partners at BioPak who continually help us to ‘Nourish our County’ and reduce food waste to help protect the planet,” she says.

Limited edition OzHarvest coffee cups are available to purchase online for cafés and businesses wishing to participate across Australia, where patrons and customers will be able to scan the QR code on the cup to make a donation.

A Unite to Feed Australia fundraising concert will take place on Thursday 7 November and will feature some of Australia’s well-known artists, including Courtney Act, William Barton, Daryl Braithwaite, William Crighton, Jess Hitchcock, Lior, Felix Riebl (from The Cat Empire), Danielle Spencer, Dylan Wright, and more to be announced next week. Proceeds from all ticket sales will go directly to the cause to help feed Australia.
